The Europe Trip: A Read Between the Lines

Europe is beautiful, amazing, and mesmerizing. India is also beautiful, amazing, and mesmerizing. But I live in India and am on holiday in Europe—a distant, expensive dream destination for a modest household in India. The dream began upon landing; the view was overwhelming. It was similar to what I experienced at the Taj Mahal. But the Taj Mahal is in India. Europe is different.

Europe is prosperous. There are cars, malls, and cafes. We have these in India, too, but I don't have time in India. The sky here reflects pink and purple. The sky looks terrific in India, too, particularly in my village. But I don't go to my village. It's nearby; I can go any day but not to Europe any day. The trees here look beautiful, though there aren't any leaves. There were plenty in India. The architecture of buildings is vibrant. Jaipur also has fantastic architecture. Every time our relatives visit, we go to the forts. The forts now remind me of my history rather than my country's. But Europe is different.

The households have hot and cold water running 24/7. There isn't a waiting time for water and no geysers. Isn't that great? It is very convenient for tea lovers like me. One doesn't need to heat water. It saves time. But I have a lot of time on holidays. These holidays have been extremely cold; it is -5 degrees right now! However, there are heaters inside every office, house, bus, car, washroom, etc. It seems like everyone is rich. We don't have the luxury of a central heating system in India. We have families to keep us warm, but that's very philosophical. Heaters don't quarrel or fart. As a third-world citizen, I realized that I may stop feeling guilty about climate change. We all sleep in the same room with the AC to save on the electricity bill. So, the developed country now seems like the big brother to me who smokes weed but scolds the younger one for having fruit beer.

Life is highly convenient in Europe, especially for me, because I have an Indian mobile number. My phone has been dead since the day I arrived. There are machines for every task—cleaning, cooking, washing utensils, or clothes. However, machines must be operated by human beings. So, I have to use my hands. I feel cheated. I don't wash utensils on holidays in India. I miss my helper. She makes tea for me. I requested the dishwasher for tea, but it didn't respond. It seems cold, and so does the weather. But Fridays are fantastic here, thanks to the fermented grape juice that transfuses warmth into the air.

Overall, Europe is fantastic. I clicked beautiful pictures for social media. I would have uploaded them, but I do not have an Instagram account. I can create one, but I don't work on holidays. You should come to Europe. It's great. Or put your savings in the SIP because India is also great. Since I do not have an Instagram account, you don't even know whether I went to Europe. So, to prove my point, I have to write this blog on a Friday. A few surprise pictures follow. :)

The Beautiful River Elbe near our Apartment
Koala at the Zoo (reminded me of my relaxed Holidays washing dishes)
Hot Mulled Fermented Grape Juice
